National Service Scheme NSS, a scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India It was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. It is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in colleges and other institutions

The NSS symbol is based on the rath of wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind. The Red colour in the badge indicates that the NSS volunteers are full of blood i.e. lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space.
AIMS and Objectives
(i) To understand the community in which they work;
(ii) To understand themselves in relation to their community;
(iii) To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
(iv) To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
(v) To utilise their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems
(vi) To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
(vii) To gain skills in mobilising community participation
(viii) To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
(ix) To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters; and (x) To practice national integration and social harmony

NSS Plastic-Awareness Report Feb 2023
1. NSSDAY: The NSS day is observed on 24th September every year.Various activities are conducted which vary from each year covering all major thrust areas and scope of NSS.
2. Blood Donation Camps
3. International Day of Yoga: All this day the Volunteers along with the Programme Officers organise mass yoga session. They also spread awareness about the benefits of Yoga, Yoga as a way of life, cultural programme on yoga and innovative steps/measures are also debated. The NSS volunteers on practicing yoga become master trainers and trained the trainers from their college to ensure that this important activity is imbibe by one and all in the college community.
4. Swachhta Abhiyaan: Cleanliness drives or Swachhta Abhiyaan is a regular activity under taken by NSS Volunteers inside their colleges and in the neighbouring and adopted areas.
5.Awareness campaigns in and around the colleges on issues, anti-smoking, drug abuse, through rallies, distribution of leaflets, handouts etc., college campus, street plays in and around the college campus, visit of adopted villages and poster making competitions.
6. Tiranga March: This important activity is conducted during celebrations of Independence day fortnight. To mark this celebration and to showcase unity the volunteers of different colleges come together carrying national flags and spread the message of solidarity.
7. Workshop on Disaster Preparedness: Workshop on "Emergency Response Preparedness" is organized by the NSS unit in the college for the NSS Volunteers. The workshops main focus is on empowering our volunteers on safety & disaster awareness and preparing the community to face emergencies & disasters by imparting the desired skills that could lead to a disaster resilient community.
8. Rashtriya Ekta Diwas: As a mark of respect to Sardar Vallabhai Patel, 31st October is celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. Following activities and events are organised by NSS unit of the college on this occassion.
9. Youth Electoral Campaign
In collaboration with Chief Election Commission, training programme for NSS volunteers of colleges on various themes related to Elections like is organised by NSS units. The Youth who will attain the age of 18+ on 01January are the main focus of the Campaign. Graffiti competition and other activities are organised in the college during this joint campaign.
10. NSS Award Function to felicitate the dedicated NSS volunteers. Upon completion of 120 hrs of service students get A certificate from NSS, University of Delhi.
